Welcome to the Texas AHEC East Coastal Region's Website

Located in La Marque, Texas, the Texas Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Coastal Region is a cooperative effort between The University of Texas Medical Branch and the Coastal AHEC, Inc.  AHEC works with Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Hardin, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, and Orange counties seeking to improve the health of our population, especially the underserved, by creating partnerships among community and academic organizations.  We link health care resources to build and strengthen community-based education programs.  A regional Governing Board of Directors guides the Coastal AHEC in it's mission.

Funding support for AHEC programs and centers combines federal, state, public, and/or private resources.

AHEC program areas include Health Careers Promotion (focusing on recruitment of potential students into healthcare professionals), Community-Based Education (getting students out to underserved communities to experience real-world primary care medicine), Community Health Literacy, and Community Health Systems (helping communities recognize their needs, goals, and strengths, and teach them how to help themselves).
